Living in Sofia as an ESC volunteer has taught me how to cherish ordinary days — because sometimes, they’re the most meaningful ones.
Today, I started my day by leaving home early in the morning, taking the bus to the office. Back in my country, it’s Kurban Bayramı (Eid al-Adha), so I wanted to bring a little piece of my culture to the team. I bought some chocolates to share at the office — a small but sweet way to celebrate across borders. 🌍🍫
After finishing some tasks on the computer and catching up with my responsibilities, I decided to treat myself. I went to one of my favorite cafés in Sofia — a cozy bookshop-café where the smell of freshly baked banana cake fills the air. I grabbed a slice right out of the oven, ordered a hot coffee, and sat down with my journal. ✍️🍌☕
While I was writing, the waiter approached me and we ended up having a warm little conversation about books, life, and local traditions. I love these spontaneous cultural exchanges — they remind me how beautiful human connection can be, even with a few words and smiles.
As the sun slowly hid behind the clouds, I made my way back home. I felt inspired to try something new: pencil sketching. It’s a new skill I’ve started learning recently, and although I’m just a beginner, it makes me feel peaceful and centered. 🎨✏️
Later that evening, as the rain started gently falling outside, I brewed myself a cup of hot ginger-orange tea. The warm cup in my hands, the soft sound of the rain, and the simple joy of sketching made me feel... grounded.
Not every day is full of big events — but days like these, made of kindness, learning, and little rituals, are the ones that stay with you.And I’m grateful for them. ☁️🍊💛
