During my first week in the project I went to 43 Secondary School Hristo Smirnenski, where I met the national volunteers and children. I supported the children in their studies and helped them do their homework. I helped them while they practiced reading and writing with the national volunteer. Then we played UNO, a card game with them.
It was a good experience for me to meet children with different characteristics and to support their education. I started learning Bulgarian with them. It was a good start for me.
Apart from these this week, I learned that on March 1, the traditional Baba Marta (Marta Nine) days begin on the occasion of the arrival of spring. After researching this tradition and its history, we made and bought Martenitsa to celebrate this day with the children. By gifting Martenitsas to each other, I shared this culture with them.
Sometimes I was nervous about how to behave because I didn't know them yet, but I got over it as the day progressed. We will do great things with them in the days to come.
