My Volunteer Life in Sofia: Days Filled with Nature, Sports, and Culture

Sofia is not only the capital of Bulgaria but also a city I discovered and grew to love during my time as a volunteer. While volunteering here, I had the chance to be close to nature and enrich my life with social and cultural activities.

Outdoor Sports and Yoga

Besides my volunteer work, the parks in the city became like my personal sports area. Since I really enjoy exercising, I take my yoga mat and practice yoga in the green spaces of the parks. The spring air and clean nature of Sofia boost my energy and motivation while working out. This way, I maintain my physical health and also relax mentally.

Hiking on Vitosha Mountain

Vitosha Mountain, located right next to Sofia, is one of the most important places where I connect with nature. In my free time from the volunteer project, I go hiking here. The mountain walks increase my physical endurance and help me find peace away from the city. Also, it’s an ideal spot to watch the stars at night because there is very little light pollution.

Social and Cultural Life in the City

During my volunteering, spending time in the city’s boutique cafés was socially important for me. Here, I had the chance to meet locals and volunteers from different countries. Some cafés in Sofia create an environment for cultural interaction by bringing together Bulgarian youth and foreigners. Thanks to this, I had the opportunity to improve my Bulgarian and get to know Bulgarian culture more closely.

Bulgarian Folklore and Cultural Trainings

As part of my volunteer project, I also participated in Bulgarian folklore training sessions, which enhanced my cultural experience. Learning traditional dances and songs deepened my knowledge of Bulgarian folk culture. These trainings helped me build connections with the local community and strengthened my interactions within the project.

Volunteering in Sofia not only allowed me to contribute to society but also greatly enhanced my personal development and quality of life. This experience, full of nature walks, sports, social interactions, and cultural learning opportunities, has been one of the most special periods of my life.
